I asked a friend of mine why she felt so scared of ICE when she isn’t an illegal immigrant and she said, “I’m scared that ICE will try to report me and/or my family, because we’re brown.”
Years ago, I spoke with a friend and we were talking about abuses we had experienced as women and the rage that follows for years after. I told her about something that happened to me, which I regretted. I told her I wished I could go back in time and react with more ferocity, more strength, how I wished I could go back in time and not feel any fear.
She said she knew what I meant.
Tears are wishes we haven’t found words for yet.
A female friend of mine is very excited about joining the Marine Corps.
How do you explain that you’d rather get hit by a mortar or an IED than walk to the showers? The worst of the battlefield, for females, is on the wrong side of the wire.
